Common Ground is a community gathering centered on Black ecologies, collective care, and the relationships that connect us to the work, the land, one another, and the futures we are building.

Created for Black women, femmes, and gender-expansive people across ecology, evolution, marine science, environmental science, conservation, environmental education, natural resources, and related fields, this gathering celebrates Black brilliance and joy while cultivating belonging, meaningful connection, and collective possibility.

Spend the day with BWEEMS and members of the Colorado community connecting across disciplines, generations, organizations, and career stages. Common Ground will create opportunities for conversation, learning, relationship building, reflection, joy, and simply being together in a space created with our community in mind.

This isn't just another professional networking event. Common Ground is about the community behind the work. It is about finding people who understand our experiences, building relationships that extend beyond one day, sharing resources and support, celebrating Black brilliance, and creating the conditions that allow all of us to flourish.

Together, we are building stronger relationships among Black women, femmes, and gender-expansive people throughout Colorado and creating an environmental and scientific community where we can be seen, valued, supported, and deeply rooted.

Transportation Support

We don't want transportation costs to keep anyone from being part of Common Ground. Transportation stipends of $25–$50 are available to help cover the cost of getting to and from the event for anyone for whom transportation costs would make attending difficult or impossible. You can request transportation support when you register.
